Ever wondered how would it be to have an inseparable buddy along with you who could grasp your emotions and act accordingly? Or someone to chat with you and help you improve your mood? what if that friend is a humanoid robot? It would be fun, right? If you want one such robot crony, no worries, Pepper - the friendly humanoid robot will come to your rescue.

Innovation of Human like robots, which could understand human emotions were considered to be beyond the bounds of human capability. But now, our fellow humans have overcome those obstacles and found Pepper - a robot that could behave like a human. Pepper was designed by a robotics company called Aldebaran Robotics, which is owned by Soft Bank. Pepper is the first humanoid robot capable of recognising the principal human emotions and adapting its behaviour to the mood of its interlocutor. It uses a cloud-based artificial intelligence system to interpret human voice tones, expressions and gestures. The robot’s head has four microphones and two HD cameras, one in the mouth and the other in the forehead, which tracks the people’s reactions every nook and corner. It also has a 3-D depth sensor behind the eyes. There is a gyroscope in the torso and touch sensors in the head and hands. The mobile base has two sonars, six lasers, three bumper sensors, and a gyroscope.

Pleasant and delightful, Pepper is much more than a robot. It is a genuine humanoid companion created to communicate with us in the most natural and intuitive way, through its body movements and its voice. It loves to interact with us and it aspires to learn more about our tastes, habits and quite simply who we are. Pepper can recognise a person’s face, talk, hear and move around autonomously. We can also personalise Pepper by downloading the software applications that appeals us, based on our mood or the occasion. We can Dance, play, learn or even chat in another language with Pepper.Pepper evolves with us. It gradually memorises our personality traits, our preferences, and adapts itself to our tastes and habits.

Unlike the other industrial robots, Pepper is intended to make people happy, enhance people's lives, facilitate relationships, have fun with people and connect people with the outside world. Pepper cannot be assigned with any complicated work. Its creators have designed it for activities like taking care of the elders, interacting and giving information to its users by searching web. Currently, Pepper is being used as a receptionist at several offices in the UK and is able to identify visitors with the use of facial recognition, send alerts for meeting organisers and arrange for drinks to be made.Pepper is said to be able to chat to prospective clients. The robot has also been employed at banks and medical facilities in Japan.

This robot might seem simple as it does the basic tasks which a human can easily do. But remember, small drops make - up an ocean. Pepper's creators hope that independent developers will create new content and uses for Pepper. These inventions might give us an idea for our own inventions. Atleast one among those, who read this blog right now, might get a spark in their minds to create their own robot, something different, which the world had never seen till now. Who knows? If something like that happens, I would love to write a blog on that too. Hope your minds flow with ideas.
